COQUITLAM — A 59-year-old man faces a second-degree murder charge after an alleged attack with a weapon resulted in the death of another man in Coquitlam, B.C.

Homicide investigators say it happened on Aug. 1 in the 400 block of Midvale Street, where responding officers found a man with serious injuries.

The accused was arrested soon after and charged with aggravated assault, but the BC Prosecution Service has since upgraded the charge to murder after the victim died in hospital.

Police say the accused, Steven Mosdell, and the victim knew one another.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says no further information will be released as the case is now before the courts.

Investigators are asking any witnesses or those with dashcam footage in the Midvale Street area around the time of the assault to come forward.
