BC Wildfire Service is planning to start a series of controlled burns this week, Oct. 23-27, near Penticton.
Crews are going to burn 450 wood piles north of Apex Mountain Resort as part of a fire fuel management project, according to a press release from Oct. 20.
Residents and travellers in Hedley, Olalla, and Penticton are advised that smoke may be visible in the area, including Highway 3 and 3A.
BC Wildfire is going to continue burning until all the piles are gone or there is too much snow to continue.
The service assures residents burning will only take place if the weather conditions are suitable and the smoke can dissipate quickly.
It says burning these wood piles is important to help reduce forest fire fuels.
