B.C. milk and plant-based consumers will be charged a deposit fee for their beverage container next month.
On Feb. 1, there will be a 10-cent deposit charged on milk and plant-based beverages including oat, soy and almond, according to a Return-It media release issued today, Jan. 18.
The deposit will be refunded when the empty containers are recycled at Return-It sites across B.C.

“Ready-to-drink” milk and plant-based beverages that have a best before date prior to Feb. 1 are exempt from the deposit system, Return-It said, as no deposit was paid, so no deposit can be refunded for the containers.
Infant formula, meal replacements, concentrates and products such as whipping cream and drinkable yogurt are also exempt from the deposit system.
Before taking containers in to be recycled, B.C. residents are reminded to completely empty the containers, rinse them to avoid mold and smell, put caps back on or push straws in.
