B.C. RCMP investigating after human remains found near Quesnel

The BC RCMP North District Major Crime Unit, Quesnel RCMP and the BC Coroners Service are investigating after human remains were discovered in a rural area near Quesnel.

"At approximately 2:30 p.m. on May 6, human remains were located in a rural area approximately 40 kilometres west of Quesnel near the Nazko Highway, by Quesnel detachment investigators and a member of the police dog section from Prince George. The officers were following up on information related to local man, Louis Korkowski, who had been reported missing and possibly abducted on the evening of May 4," according to the B.C. RCMP in a news release.

The BC RCMP North District Major Crime Unit has taken over the investigation as police believe the remains and circumstances surrounding the death involves criminality, according to the release.

"We are working to determine identity and the BC Coroners Service is also investigating," said Sgt. Janelle Shoihet, BC RCMP media relations officer, in the news release. "We recognize there are many questions and wishes for us to confirm whether or not these are the remains of the man, recently reported missing to the Quesnel RCMP. Our priority at this time is to confirm identity and then to speak with the man’s family."

Investigators are seeking any information leading up to this man’s death and are asking witnesses to call the Quesnel RCMP Detachment at 250-992-9211 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS. The RCMP will be providing further updates as more information becomes available.
