A BC nurse was suspended for four weeks after repeated issues with handling medication.

Langley registered nurse Christine Bruneski agreed to the suspension with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives on Aug. 10, which will be followed by close supervision of her practice once she's working in healthcare again.

The College became aware of "practice issues" that included poor narcotic and controlled drug "handling practices" in 2021 and 2022. She also breached the privacy of a patient and once slept while on the job, according to a notice on the College website.

The College did not explain what it meant by her poor drug handling beyond describing her administration and documentation of medication as "unsatisfactory." It also did not explain the four conditions on her practice Bruneski breached when she was made aware of an inquiry into her practice issues.

It wasn't the first time she's run into trouble for mishandling drugs with the College, which said she's faced discipline before. The College did not detail any of her previous discipline.

Once she returns from suspension, Bruneski will go through a "learning plan" and her practice will be limited. She will be prohibited from independently administering narcotics and controlled drugs for two months, followed by another four months of "mentorship and monitoring."

No additional information was provided and the College said it is satisfied the terms will protect the public.
