B.C. nurse reprimanded for drinking on the job

A Vancouver Island nurse has been reprimanded for drinking on the job.

According to a Jan. 26 B.C. College of Nurses and Midwives decision, registered nurse Adam Powell admitted he drank alcohol at work and offered and encouraged colleagues and subordinates to also drink alcohol.

The decision said the Victoria nurse was in an administrative position and did not routinely care for patients.

The incidents took place between June to September 2022.

Powell signed a consent agreement admitting to his behaviour.

He will now have to take "intensive" remedial education in ethical practice and professional responsibility and accountability and have regular check-ins to address his "unsatisfactory conduct."

The nursing regulator doesn't give any other details and said it's satisfied the terms will protect the public.
