The B.C. NDP has announced its candidate in Boundary-Similkameen for next month’s provincial election.

Roly Russell, the regional district's rural Grand Forks director, was elected B.C. NDP candidate for the riding last night, Sept. 23, according to a media release from the party.

Russell beat Oliver town councillor Aimee Grace in the nomination race.

“I’m thrilled to represent John Horgan’s team in Boundary-Similkameen," Russell said in the release. "The NDP is the best choice to lead us out of the pandemic, and this region deserves a proactive and strong voice in a renewed John Horgan mandate."

Russell has served on the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary since 2013, including two terms as chair. He is president of the Association of Kootenay Boundary local governments and chair of the Grand Forks Credit Union board of directors.

The release said Russell’s priorities include protecting the health of our forests, economic resilience, affordability and housing, addressing climate change and supporting local communities.
