A BC massage therapist with a history of violations has been hit with additional sanctions, this time for sexualizing a clinical massage.

Craig Hall of Surrey was suspended for a week, given a small fine and ordered to take remedial education after he asked a patient: “You’ve never had bondage therapy?” while he used a strap around the patient’s thigh to perform a hip distraction, according to the College of Massage Therapists of BC in a recent decision.

He also talked to her about massage parlours being “rub-and-tug” places and told her he’s not allowed to date his patients. He was also cited for using the words “hell” and “batshit nuts”.

Hall has recent history with the college, most recently in April 2023 for being late for an appointment, then suddenly showing up at that patient's home with a bottle of wine, a liquor store gift card and treats for her dog to apologize for his tardiness.

In 2016, he was also sanctioned for talking and writing to patients about subjects not related to treatment. While that disciplinary action was unclear about what was said, the discussions made a patient “uncomfortable and caused her distress."

While he was under investigation in February for the two most recent allegations, the college placed him under supervision for two months, insisting that every female patient be contacted within seven days of their first and fourth treatments to ensure compliance.
