B.C. Fruit Growers Association to choose a president this weekend

PENTICTON - Kelowna's Fred Steele, president of the B.C. Fruit Growers' Association, will find out if he'll remain at the helm for a second term when he goes head-to-head with Vernon's Jeet Dukhia at the annual convention in Penticton this weekend.

Dukhia was the association president in 2013, prior to Steele's term, so each candidate brings experience to the table.

The 126th BCFGA annual general meeting starts Friday Feb. 20 from 1 to 5 p.m. and carries over to Saturday, Feb. 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Penticton Lakeside Resort. A social will be held Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. for government and industry organization representatives and the election takes place Saturday at 2 p.m.

The keynote speaker will be University of B.C.'s Dr. Kirsten Hannam. The agenda includes an annual report of the executive, financial statements, budget, special resolutions and annual reports of subsidiaries, including the Summerland Varieties Corporation and the B.C. Research and Development Orchard. Ltd.
