People across the province are still not getting the message when it comes to being fire smart during one of the worst wildfire seasons in B.C.'s history.

The B.C. Conservation Service handed out 19 wildfire act tickets over the B.C. Day long weekend.

The service tweeted out that they were working hard to enforce the province-wide campfire ban.

The ban went into place last month, around the same time a provincial state of emergency was declared due to the province's wildfire situation.

Last month, 15 fines were issued during a one-week period for people having illegal campfires in B.C.

Under the province's wildfire act, people disobeying the campfire ban can face a fine of up to $1,150.
