Ballet Kelowna is reviving three of its most successful Canadian commissions this week with the presentation of Reprise at the Kelowna Community Theatre.

Set for Feb. 18 and 19, starting at 7:30 p.m. Reprise is an extensive repertoire of commissioned works by Canadian choreographers.

The dynamic collection showcases the breathtaking range and versatility of Ballet Kelowna’s company of artists in three of its most popular works, according to a press release issued by Ballet Kelowna.

The classical work Within the Golden Raga, choreographed by Kunal Ranchod, is infused with sultry Argentine tango, Cuatro Estaciones, choreographed by Ballet Kelowna’s own artistic director and CEO Simone Orlando and the uplifting and joyful MAMBO, choreographed by Alysa Pires.

Opening the program is the return of Within the Golden Raga, which premiered in February 2020.

Ballet Kelowna’s newest dancer Kealan McLaughlin will make his company debut in Reprise, dancing the principal duet in the program's opening work, Within the Golden Raga, as well as an additional duet in MAMBO.

Within the Golden Raga’s pairing of classical ballet and traditional Indian music visibly moved Okanagan audiences, quickly earning a top spot in Ballet Kelowna’s repertoire of classical works.

Audiences will then be transported to Buenos Aires, Argentina with the remount of Orlando’s Cuatro Estaciones, which premiered in February 2019.

Set to Piazzolla’s Four Seasons of Buenos Aires, layered with Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, this multifaceted contemporary work earned rave reviews from audiences upon its premiere and has since toured across B.C.

The piece was initially created with support from Kelowna’s local tango expert, Sharon Sebo, who worked closely with Ballet Kelowna’s company of dancers as they learned the artistry and nuance of the Argentine tango, according to Ballet Kelowna.

Closing the evening is the fun and colourful contemporary work MAMBO, which premiered in Kelowna in February 2018.

In addition to Reprise, Ballet Kelowna will present both Cuatro Estaciones and MAMBO as part of their inaugural tour to Atlantic Canada and Quebec in 2022.

Tickets and information are available through Ballet Kelowna’s website.
