MUMBAI, India - A doctor says Indian Hindi movie mogul Yash Chopra has died more than a week after he contracted dengue fever. He was 80.
Known as "King of Romance," Chopra had a Bollywood career that spanned five decades with major hits including "Deewar" (Wall), "Dil To Pagal Hai" (Heart Is Mad) and "Chandni" (Moonlight).
He died in a Mumbai hospital on Sunday. He also was suffering from kidney ailments, the doctor said on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to reporters.
His latest Hindi movie, "Jab Tak Hai Jaan" (As Long as I am Alive), is scheduled for release across India next month.
Chopra's elder son, Aditya Chopra, also is a successful film director and younger son, Uday Chopra, runs the international branch of their production house.
