Short list announced for $50,000 Sobey Art Award for contemporary work

HALIFAX - The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia and Sobey Art Foundation have announced the short list for this year's Sobey Art Award.

Gareth Moore, Jason de Haan, Derek Sullivan, Raphaelle de Groot and Eleanor King are in the running for the $50,000 prize, which celebrates contemporary art.

Each of the other finalists will receive $5,000.

Work by the artists will be shown in an exhibition opening Oct. 24 at the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art in Toronto.

The winner will be announced Nov. 16.

Established in 2002, the award is given to a Canadian artist 40 years of age and under who has exhibited in a public or commercial gallery within 18 months of being nominated.
