TORONTO - Fifteen up-and-coming artists are in the running for the RBC Canadian Painting Competition, which awards $55,000 in prize money.
The competition — which recognizes emerging artists who are in the first five years of their artistic careers — awards $25,000 to the winner and $15,000 apiece to two runners up.

Ann Webb, executive director of the Canadian Art Foundation, said that selecting 15 finalists has been a tough task.
"Choosing a winner is going to be very difficult," she said in a statement.
The 2012 winner and honourable mentions will be announced in Toronto on November 29. Paintings by the 15 finalists will be on exhibit at the Power Plant in Toronto and online at rbc.com/paintingcompetition.
The 2012 paintings will join RBC's Canadian art collection, which currently holds more than 4,000 works.
