KAMLOOPS - A high-risk arrest was made in downtown Kamloops today after a report of a man with a handgun.
Kamloops RCMP Staff Sgt. Ed Preto says in a news release officers received information today, April 2, at 1:49 p.m., that a man was seen with a handgun in his jacket pocket while walking in downtown Kamloops.
The man is well known to Kamloops RCMP, Preto says.
Officers reviewed surveillance footage from the area and confirmed the suspect's identity, although police did not name him in the release.
Preto says officers made extensive patrols and he was eventually located walking on 4 Avenue and Battle Street just before 3 p.m., outside of the YMCA.
RCMP members treated the arrest as high-risk, and officers had their firearms out during the arrest, Preto says.
He was taken into custody without incident and police are continuing to investigate.
The handgun was not located and police are attempting to find it.
