Armstrong RCMP arrested a man in Armstrong after an armed standoff with police on the weekend.

According to a RCMP media release, police were called to an Armstrong residence Jun 7 around 5 p.m. after receiving reports of a distressed man who was allegedly armed with firearms. Information given to the police indicated the man was threatening to hurt himself and others. Given the circumstances, a large police presence, including K9 units, attended the scene.

After some time, the man exited his house and wielded what police believed to be a metal object. He uttered threats to police during that time, according to the release.

The release states police used various resources to de-escalate the situation, and the male was eventually apprehended by the RCMP K9 unit and secured by officers.

The 41-year-old Armstrong man was arrested and faces charges of uttering threats to cause death and possession of weapons for a dangerous purpose. He was subsequently released.
