PENTICTON - November weather has been kind to Apex Mountain Resort and as a result the ski hill is opening a week early.

The ski area, located 36 kilometres west of Penticton, announced this week they’ll be opening Saturday, Nov. 28, under some of the best early season snow conditions seen in years.

“We had a major snowfall roughly a week ago,” Apex Mountain Resort Sales and Marketing Manager Emily Childs says.

Childs says the resort has added two new runs, one off the quad and one off the triple chair, in addition to increased brush cutting and gliding this summer.

The resort currently has a base of 98 centimetres, and will be opening the triple chair, T-Bar and magic carpet on Saturday, allowing access to 20 trails.

“We expect it to be one of the best openings for conditions in many years," Childs says.

The resort will be open daily as of Nov. 28, with the quad chair expected to open Dec. 5. Full day lift tickets will be $20 off regular price from Saturday Nov. 28 through Dec. 5.

The ski hill was originally targeting Dec. 5 as opening day.

It is still unclear if Mount Baldy near Oliver will open this year while Big White and Silver Star Mountain both opened earlier this month ahead of schedule.
