KAMLOOPS - Another beach on Shuswap Lake has high levels of E. Coli.

Sunnybrae Beach has a swimming advisory in place after routine water testing showed elevated levels of the bacteria.

The beach is not closed to the public, but swimming is not recommended, according to a release from the Columbia Shuswap Regional District.

"Interior Health is advising that due to the elevated water sample results, the public should be made aware of the increased risk of swimming at Sunnybrae Beach," the regional district says in the release. "Follow-up water samples are being taken this week and the advisory will be rescinded once samples show acceptable bacteria levels."

The district says Sandy Beach and Pebble Beach in Blind Bay are not affected by the swimming advisory.

The swimming advisory for Sunnybrae Beach comes a week after nearby beaches were closed due to the contamination. The campgrounds at Sandy Point, Glen Echo and Pierre's Point had levels of E. Coli too high for water activities.

E. Coli is often caused due to animal feces, such as that left by geese. The district says routine water tests will continue and updates will be provided.
