KELOWNA – Construction on the large Westcorp hotel in downtown Kelowna will be delayed for design revisions.

President and CEO Phil Milroy says in a media release they have been “grappling with the notion of doing some revisions for a number of months now and believe that exploring them is the right thing to do.”

Construction is now expected to begin in late 2017.

The release does not specify what prompted the changes or what the changes are but says revisions will be presented sometime in 2017.

This is the second major delay in construction since plans for the massive, 26-storey boutique hotel were announced. Groundbreaking was initially scheduled to begin in the spring but delayed until the fall in order to study water tables over the summer.

Construction is expected to take roughly two years and be completed in late 2018 or early 2019.
