KELOWNA - Some Kelowna residents may be temporarily behind bars this week to support a local charity.
The annual Cops for Kids Jail and Bail is back in Kelowna this Thursday, Apr. 19 at the Canadian Brewhouse.
Citizens will be arrested by off-duty police officers, and spend a portion of their day behind bars calling friends and family in order to fundraise for their bail.
The funds will be donated to the Cops for Kids Charitable Foundation to fund medical equipment, therapy, learning and mobility aids for local children.
“The annual Jail & Bail is a fun way for us to raise money to help kids with items that aren’t covered by government or other local agencies,” managing partner Felipa Marioras says in a media release.
“We still have spaces available for more arrests, as we aim to beat our fundraising total of $10,000 from last year,” Kelowna RCMP volunteer Auxiliary Constable John Bauer states in the release.
Those wishing to participate can turn themselves in at www.copsforkids.org or call 250-801-4438.
