A suspect has been arrested for allegedly trying to steal a woman’s purse in Kamloops.

The victim called police at around 2:35 p.m. Monday, May 29, from the 700 block of Tranquille Road, according to an RCMP media release.

The accused allegedly stopped the victim and demanded she give up her phone and purse, before physically trying to take them.

The victim was able to call 9-1-1 before having her phone stolen.

“A man in the area retrieved the victim’s phone from the suspect and returned it to its proper owner,” Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in the release. “Shortly after, a woman matching the suspect’s description was located by police, arrested for robbery, and taken to cells as part of the investigation.”

The suspect is out on bail and charges are anticipated.

Anyone who witnessed, has video, or information related to this incident is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2023-18883.
