A repeat offender was caught trying to break into a business using a hammer in Kelowna on the weekend.
Police responded to a call from a business owner in the 2500 block of Enterprise Way who provided real-time video surveillance footage of the attempted break-in at construction trailers just before 10 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 15, according to a Kelowna RCMP media release.
Officers arrived and arrested the suspect who was caught in the act with a hammer in hand.
The suspect gave RCMP a fake name at first but later was identified as Saeed Abbas, 43.
At the time of arrest Abbas was carrying a duffel bag that was searched by police who found and seized a replica pistol and several break and enter tools.

Police recommended several charges against Abbas that include one count each of break and enter, property obtained by crime, possession of break in tools, obstructing a police officer and three counts of breach of release orders.
“The Kelowna RCMP work hard to put offenders like this in jail and are thankful that the justice system has remanded Mr. Abbas until January 20,” Kelowna RCMP spokesperson Const. Mike Della-Paolera said in the release.
Additional charges are being investigated and soon to be forwarded to the BC Prosecution Service for consideration, RCMP said.
