SICAMOUS - A Calgary driver will have to pay a hefty fine after speeding excessively near Sicamous last week.
Sicamous RCMP say in a news release officers observed a Nissan Altima on June 26 travelling eastbound on the Trans-Canada Highway in Malakwa, northeast of Sicamous.
The officer clocked the speed of the vehicle at 166 kilometres per hour, police say. The 20-year-old Calgary driver was given a $483 ticket and their car was impounded for seven days.
It was a busy week for that detachment. The next evening, June 27, Sicamous RCMP were notified of a possible impaired driver in a Jeep Cherokee driving westbound on Highway 1 from Revelstoke.
The vehicle later passed a marked cruiser in Malakwa going 186 kilometres per hour. The vehicle was stopped and the officer noticed the driver could be impaired by alcohol, RCMP say.
The driver failed a roadside screening test which led to a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and a 30-day impoundment of the vehicle.
The 46-year-old Vernon driver was also given a $483 excessive speeding ticket.
