Bomb explodes at church in central Nigeria, a restive region divided between faiths

JOS, Nigeria - Witnesses say a bomb has exploded at a church in a restive central Nigerian city on the dividing line between the nation's Muslim north and Christian south, causing unknown injuries.

The blast happened Sunday morning at an Evangelical Church Winning All church in the city of Jos.

Mark Lipdo of a Christian advocacy group, the Stefanos Foundation, said the blast caused injuries.

Police could not be immediately reached for comment.

Thousands have died in and around Jos over the last decade in religious rioting and fighting. While the violence cuts across faiths, it often has its roots in political and economic disputes between the many ethnic groups living in the nation's fertile central belt region.
