Additional rally to be held in Kelowna calling for support in Ukraine

A rally held outside of Kelowna city hall Feb. 24, 2022 for Ukraine.

Canadian-Ukrainian residents will again be rallying outside of Kelowna’s city hall this weekend to show their support for their country.

Earlier this week, Russia launched a full-scale invasion on Ukraine. Canada and other Western societies have imposed strict sanctions on Russia, but fighters continue to attack Ukraine from all sides. Thousands are fleeing the country.

A rally will be held outside of city hall at 2 p.m., Feb. 27, said organizer Danylo Sora. His parents, currently in Leiv, the largest city in Western Ukraine, were safe this morning, he said.

Sora is urging Canadians to do what they can to support Ukraine.

“We need the help, of course, medications, everything you can do,” he said.

Rallies are being held in support of Ukraine across the Thompson Okanagan this weekend. A rally in Vernon will be held at 4 p.m. outside of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

A rally in Kamloops will be held today at the Hope sign at Riverside Park at 3 p.m.

Across the country, Canadians have been showing support for Ukraine by also holding rallies. Yesterday, Feb. 25, B.C. Liquor Stores decided to pull all Russian products from their shelves, joining liquor stores across the country protesting the Russian invasion.

The Ukrainian Canadian Council has started accepting donations for humanitarian aid.
