A rally to support Ukraine is scheduled in Kamloops for tomorrow.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine, a democratic country, has fuelled fears of a wider war in Europe and triggered worldwide efforts to make Russia stop.

Michele Huston, founder of the Sim’ya Ukrainian Society, is coordinating the event.

“This is a place for Ukrainians to gather and share their stories,” she said. “And for others to show support for them.”

The gathering is open to all residents and is intended to be peaceful, respectful and supportive.

“Phone calls have been coming into the society since the bombing started,” Huston said. “People are sending condolences. It's a horrible and gross situation but people need to do something positive together.”

The event is to be held under the Hope sign at Riverside Park in Kamloops at 3 p.m.

People are encouraged to wear blue and yellow, and hold signs that say “Stand with Ukraine.”
