Former B.C. cabinet minister to lecture on policy at University of Victoria

KAMLOOPS, B.C. - Former B.C. cabinet minister George Abbott is getting back to his roots.
Abbott left the front benches in late August after announcing he would not run again in his Shuswap riding in next May's provincial election.
Now, the veteran politician, who was first elected in 1996, has revealed his post-politics plans.
He will teach a single course at the University of Victoria, lecturing on public policy development in the areas of education and health.
The fit not only recognizes his former cabinet portfolios in education and health, but also reflects Abbott's 15 years as an instructor at the former Okanagan College.
On top of his part-time work at UVic, the B.C. Taxpayers' Federation estimates Abbott a pension of between $90,000 and $1.5-million annually. (CHNL)
