PENTICTON - Take part in a pig festival, a history lecture at a winery, a pride dance or a spring fashion show as this weekend list of things to do has some unique events.
Local historian David Gregory talks about the fur trade, B.C. gold rushes and the early days of the Greata Ranch orchard in this limited seating history presentation at Greata Ranch on Friday, May 3 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. There is no charge. Bar service is available. The Greata Ranch is located at 697 Highway 97, south of Peachland.
The City of Penticton hosts a Jane’s Walk on Saturday, May 4 at 1 p.m. Participants should meet at the Kokanee fish statue on Backstreet Boulevard. The Jane’s walk is an opportunity to explore the city, share stories about your community and connect with neighbours. Jane's Walk is a global movement of free, citizen-led walking tours inspired by Jane Jacobs. For more information, call: 250-490-2400.
The eighth annual Pig Out Festival takes place at Covert Farms Family Estate at 300 Covert Place in Oliver on Saturday, May 4 from 1 to 4 p.m. The annual vineyard pig roast brings chefs together from several local restaurants, with a new culinary theme every year. Pig Out tickets are available online at $65 and include entertainment, a souvenir wine glass and lots of food and wine.
SOS Pride is holding their annual Dance Party on Saturday, May 4 at 7 p.m. This year’s theme is Star Wars Day and you don’t have to be a Star Wars fan or dress up as a character to celebrate SOS pride. The event takes place at the Penticton Art Gallery, 199 Marina Way. Tickets are $25 on Eventbrite, or $35 at the door. Participants must be 19 years or older.
The Summerland Community Arts Council presents “A Spring Fashion Show” on Saturday, May 4 starting at 7 p.m., at the Summerland Arts & Culture Centre. Fashions from SASS Clothing Boutique, Summerland Secondary School and a costume finale by the Tracy Fehr Voice Studio will be showcased at the event. There wil also be a silent auction with some great items to bid on. Tickets are $15 and include a glass of wine and snacks. Tickets are available at SASS, 10118 Main St. or the Summerland Arts & Cultural Centre at 9525 Wharton Street in Summerland.
