A second person has died of COVID-19 in an outbreak at Kelowna General Hospital.

Interior Health reported the second death connected to the outbreak today, March 31. The outbreak in unit 5B is one of two outbreaks in the hospital.

Five patients and five staff members have contracted COVID-19 linked to 5B's outbreak.

Another outbreak at the hospital was announced this morning in unit 4E. One patient and one staff member currently have the virus linked to that outbreak.

An investigation is ongoing and any patients with COVID-19 are being relocated to the COVID unit, Interior Health said in a media release.

There is no evidence of COVID-19 transmission to other areas of the hospital and the new 4E outbreak does not appear to be linked to 5E, IH said.

An outbreak was also declared today by the health authority at Vernon Jubilee Hospital's Level 3 surgical unit. Three patients are linked to the outbreak.

As of March 30, there 479 active COVID-19 cases in the Interior Health Authority, according to the B.C. Centre for Disease Control.
