A second COVID-19 outbreak at Kelowna General Hospital.
Interior Health announced today, March 31, in a media release the second outbreak of COVID-19 is in unit 4E at the hospital.
One patient and one staff member have tested positive for COVID-19.
An investigation is ongoing and any patients with COVID-19 are being relocated to the COVID unit, Interior Health said.
An outbreak in the hospital's 5B unit is ongoing. Five patients and five staff have been infected, and one death is connected to the outbreak.
There is no evidence of COVID-19 transmission to other areas of the hospital and the new 4E outbreak does not appear to be linked to 5E, Interior Health said.
Outbreak control measures are in place and a team of infection control and communicable disease specialists, along with KGH clinical staff and leaders, are meeting daily to contain the outbreak.
IH said the hospital remains safe to attend for appointments and emergency care.
The health authority continues to encourage residents to follow COVID-19 safety measures including washing hands often, wearing a mask, physical distancing, avoid physical gatherings and staying within household bubbles.
Online COVID-19 tests can be booked through the COVID-19 Test Booking Form or by calling 1-877-740-7747.
