KELOWNA – Thanks to social media a luxury pontoon boat that was stolen from a Kelowna business last weekend has been recovered in Alberta.
The boat, a 2015 Campion Biltmore worth more than $110,000, was taken from Banner Recreational Products some time Sunday.
Amanda Jefferson, Marketing Co-ordinator at Banner Recreation and Marine, says the suspects used a motor home and two pickup trucks to steal the large, unique boat.
Global Okanagan reports police were tipped off to the boat’s location by postings on social media and it was found in the middle of a field in Grande Prairie.
Jefferson says the heist was well-planned and that the thieves must have been familiar with the dealership's security and schedule.
Surveillance video shows the suspects pulled up at around 7:15 a.m. Sunday with a motorhome and two newer model F-350 Ford pickups, then, after cutting chains on the boat trailer and removing the locked casing around the trailer hitch, simply drove off with the boat.
