    This weekend marks the kick off to Community Clean-Up Month-- and to mark the occasion a crew of enthusiastic volunteers will head to a popular recreation corridor to clean up garbage-- left behind by a careless few. And they’re challenging you to do the same—to take even a small portion of your day to do a clean-up in your own neighborhood.

    The clean-up kickoff event is an annual one, organized in a new locale each year by the Regional District Waste Reduction office.

  • Is that fire an open burn? New map for the public can help

    Wildfires are rare in B.C. at this time of year, but the smoke from legal, registered open burns is often mistaken for smoke from a wildfire. This is especially true in late fall when such fires are often lit to dispose of vegetation and wood debris.
  • Prescribed burn planned near Clemina in Clearwater area

    KAMLOOPS - BC Wildfire Service crews will help BC Timber Sales staff conduct a prescribed burn near Clemina in the Clearwater Fire Zone. This 33-hectare burn will be completed between Friday, Sept. 23 and Saturday, Oct. 15.

  • West Kelowna alternate evacuation routes ready for fire season

    WEST KELOWNA - With the onset of wildfire season, the City of West Kelowna reminds Glenrosa residents that alternate emergency evacuation routes, via Jackpine, Bear Lake Main and Bear Creek Forest Service Roads, are available if needed.

    City staff has traveled the routes to ensure they are clear of obstructions and well-marked with signs to assist with navigation. Staff will continue patrols throughout the fire season to ensure they remain passable.
  • Deadline for 2016 dog license renewals approaches

    CENTRAL OKANAGAN - The countdown is on for Central Okanagan dog owners to renew their dog license for 2016.

    Monday, Feb. 29 is the last day they can renew for the annual license fee of $20 for a dog that’s spayed or neutered or $60 if it isn’t. Starting March 1st, all renewals will have a $20 late fee added.  As well, owners could be faced with a $300 fine for not having a valid license.
  • ‘Don’t Forget My License’ – Central Okanagan 2016 dog license renewals underway

    More than 21,000 Central Okanagan dog owners will be receiving their annual renewal notice in the mail and are encouraged to ‘Don’t Forget My License’.

    As this is a leap year, owners have an extra day (until Monday, February 29th) to renew their dog license for 2016. Starting March 1st, all renewals are subject to an additional $20 late charge and owners could be faced with a $300 fine for not having a valid license.
