    KELOWNA - Work will take place on several bridges, Lakeshore Road and Baron Road this week. 
  • Gellatly Road work to begin Tuesday, May 20

    WEST KELOWNA - Work will begin Tuesday, May 20 on Gellatly Road to repair the slope failure that forced the recent closure of the road. TT Contracting Ltd. has been contracted by the District of West Kelowna to begin the work which is estimated to take five weeks.

    The work will involve the installation of a 1.8 metre diameter culvert for Smith Creek.

    Local State of Emergency for Gellatly Road
    Council acknowledged the declaration of the state of local emergency by Mayor Doug Findlater on May 12 regarding the slope failure on a section of Gellatly Road. Gellatly Road, from approximately Witt Road to Angus Drive, was closed May 2 due to erosion of the bank on the west side of the road, adjacent to Smith Creek.

  • Highway 6 safety upgrades completed

    COLDSTREAM - Highway 6 has received $11 million worth of upgrades to improve road safety and a better flow of traffic. Approximately 2.2 kilometres of Highway 6 between Grey and Ricardo roads have been realigned and resurfaced. New railway crossing signals have been added, domestic and irrigation waterlines have been improved and stream upgrades will allow fish better passage through an enlarged culvert at Coldstream Creek.
  • New bridge for Highway 97A at Hummingbird Creek

    SHUSWAP - The government of B.C. is committing $3 million for the designand construction of a new bridge on Highway 97A over Hummingbird Creek to improve safety and better protect the highway during times of high creek flows.

    A rainfall warning is in effect for the North, South and Central Okanagan. Environment Canada is forecasting between 40-60 millimeters of rain to fall over the next 48 hours, which could pose problems for low-lying areas.
