The Pandosy Neighbourhood Association is proud to announce our first annual Parade of Garage Sales that we have coming up this Saturday May 24, 2025 from 9am - 3pm sponsored by Peter Chow from RE/MAX Kelowna. It is looking like it will be a good event. We have upwards of 50 homes signed up. A dozen or so local businesses have also been very generous in providing a one day discount for the event (all the public needs to do is mention they are there for the "Parade of Garage Sales" and they will receive the discount). "Our event is made to showcase our great neighbourhood and everything it has to offer. By having a Parade of Garage Sales people from all over will be invited to see what the Pandosy Neighbourhood is all about. This will include, but not limited to, our people, businesses, schools, parks, rec areas and real estate development. Hosting a Parade of Garage Sales in our neighbourhood is an easy way to get community involvement. Most people hold garage sales throughout the year anyways, so this is a great way to maximize visibility by having a dedicated event.
We had some key objectives that we wanted to achieve with this event. First of all, it is an outlet for people to sell their goods and to help keep "stuff" out of the landfills. The idea of garage sales has always been to "reuse" and in this day and age where everything is getting to be so expensive, this just makes sense. We live in such a "disposable" world these days that every bit of recycling and reusing of products helps the environment (and the wallet).
Secondly, this event is a fantastic way to inspire a sense of pride and ownership in our Pandosy community. I personally believe we have one of the best communities in the city (but I'm being biased as I've lived in the community for many years). But I do truly believe I have a right to feel this way as our community has a lot to offer. From some of the best parks and beaches in the city, to a super walk-able business district filled with great boutique stores and restaurants. Plus all ages and grades of schools right up to college level. The Pandosy neighbourhood has a lot to offer.
It's also designed to create a fun event that will bring awareness and people to our area and to drive business to our local economy. In a time where we are so focused on what is happening south of the border and trying to support Canadian made products and businesses, it's a great way to have everyone stop and look at what we have to offer locally. These boutique stores, restaurants and other businesses are run by people that live in the community. These people have families to feed and mortgages to pay, just like most of us. If we want to have a strong local economy we have to support them, or unfortunately they will slowly disappear."
