The City is inviting residents to share their thoughts on proposed changes to its Official Community Plan. Commonly known as KAMPLAN, the Official Community Plan is the strategic visionary document that brings the community’s values, priorities, and aspirations to life.
As a guiding document, KAMPLAN is the pillar supporting Council and staff decision making about where and how we live, work, and play.
The 2025 KAMPLAN updates primarily focus on aligning anticipated growth with projected housing needs over the next two decades. With recent legislated changes, all local governments must update their Official Community Plans by the end of 2025 to accommodate anticipated housing needs over the next 20 years.
Residents are invited to learn more about the City’s plan to address housing needs and what changes they can expect to see in their neighbourhood and across the city in the future.
Join City staff at one of four open house sessions this June:
Downtown - Wednesday, June 11, 4:30 to 7:30 pm, Kamloops Yacht Club, 1140 River Street.
Southwest - Wednesday, June 18, 4:30 to 7:30 pm, West Highlands Community Centre, 1185 Links Way
North Shore - Thursday, June 19, 4:30 to 7:30 pm, Kamloops Sports Council Building, McArthur Island Park, 1550 Island Parkway
East Kamloops - Tuesday, June 24, 4:30 to 7:30 pm, Valleyview Community Hall, 2288 Park Drive
Residents may attend any session. The sessions will be open-house style, with information boards set up and staff available to chat and answer questions. Ideas, questions, and concerns from the community will be considered when drafting the updated plan.
The draft plan is scheduled to be completed by late summer. Following further engagement on the draft plan in the fall, it will be brought to Council to authorize a public hearing, with final adoption expected by December 2025.
Municipalities in British Columbia must adopt Official Community Plans. While an Official Community Plan does not commit a municipality to proceed with any project specified in the plan, all bylaws enacted or works undertaken by the local government must be consistent with the plan.
