Event Description

The City of Kamloops is excited to announce the annual Emergency Services Day on Saturday, May 10, 2025, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at McArthur Island Park. This free, family-friendly event offers residents a unique opportunity to interact with various emergency services teams and organizations operating within our community.
Emergency Services Day is hosted during Emergency Preparedness Week and is designed to provide valuable insights into emergency preparedness, available services, and volunteer opportunities. Attendees will have the chance to explore emergency equipment, participate in interactive activities, and learn from safety experts. Event highlights will include:
• Fire Safety: Explore a fire engine and learn about firefighting equipment.
• Safety First: Sit in a police car and understand the role of law enforcement in community safety.
• Bike Rodeo: Bring your helmet and bike to participate in a bike rodeo to practise safe riding skills.
• Community Safety: Meet a Community Services Officer and learn how they keep our community safe.
• Rescue Shoutout: Give a high five to Kamloops Search and Rescue and learn about their lifesaving missions.
• Emergency Health: Meet BC Emergency Health Services and discover how they respond to medical emergencies.
• Pet Safety: Learn about pet safety and how to keep your furry friends safe with the BC SPCA.
• FireSmart Tips: Talk to a FireSmart expert and get advice on protecting your home from wildfires.
• Meet Safety Experts: Talk to police officers, firefighters, and paramedics about staying safe in emergencies.
• Safety Alerts: Learn about the City's emergency alert notification system, Voyent Alert!, and how to register.
• Emergency Support Services: Meet team leads and volunteers from Emergency Support Services and learn how to pack your to-go bag in an emergency.
"Emergency Services Day is a fantastic opportunity for residents to engage with the dedicated professionals who work tirelessly to keep our community safe," said Ty Helgason, the City’s Emergency Preparedness Manager. "We hope everyone comes out to learn, interact, and have fun."
Attendees are encouraged to bring a reusable bag to take home colouring books, stickers, toys, swag, and other helpful information.
