Keeping the chill out of winter

Gene Weiting, fireplace specialist at The Fireplace Place will work to find just the right unit for your home and needs.

Curling up on the couch on a chilly autumn night to settle in for a movie is always better when you’re sitting in front of a glowing fireplace.

Although any flame provides a feeling of comfort, a wood burning fireplaces is messy and requires effort.  To avoid that hassle, many are considering converting from wood-burning to gas, or, they are building and buying homes incorporating stunning new gas fireplaces.

Gas units have become as much about the beauty and ambiance they create in a space as the cozy heat they fill a room with.

“Some become like a piece of art,” says Gene Weiting, fireplace specialists at the Fireplace Place in Kelowna.

The Beauty of a gas fireplace can be as extravagant or as simple as you want; from long horizontal units, to vertical flames, coloured lights, stone, rock or wood like interiors, the choices are wide and ranging.  Getting an idea of what would best suit the style of your home is made a little easier at the Fireplace Place with the more than 70 gas units on display.

Custom designs can be created as well by the designers at the Fireplace Place to be sure a client is getting exactly what they envision. Something customers have really come to appreciate is cool glass or heat shift technology which whisks any excess heat away from the front glass panel.

“It’s a full service process. We sit down with the client and help them figure out what will be the best option for them,” says Weiting, who’s been in the business for more than three decades.

Along with the artistic look and design of a gas fireplace, the units can offer exceptional warmth and convenience. Whether it’s for a small bungalow, or a 20,000 square foot custom house, the luxury of being able to accurately control the amount of heat and timing is a nice bonus as a home’s furnace can also be turned down accordingly. Many of the higher end units will adjust to the temperature of the room and output just the right amount of heat as the room dictates.

Depending on how well insulated a house is, a 40,000 BTU fireplace would be more than enough to heat a large living or family room. Most of the high-efficiency gas fireplaces have a large turn-down ratios; meaning they can adjust from the 40,000 BTU down to 12,000, or lower.

Retrofitting, custom installs, dedicated fireplace designers, gas technicians, installers, dispatchers and a huge showroom ensures that the Fireplace Place has every aspect of your new or retrofitted unit taken care of, explains Weiting. “We are easy to do business with.”
