Kamloops realtor goes the extra mile for his clients

City of Kamloops

Selling houses is what Chris Lafratta loves to do. The Kamloops realtor, who works with EXP Realty, believes in going the extra mile for his clients, helping them showcase their properties in their best possible light.

As he puts it, “realtors don’t just sell property, they sell trust.”

According to Lafratta, many houses sell themselves but a good realtor does more to make that sale happen — from added extras like professional photography to 3D virtual tours and video tours.

With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the restrictions many businesses are facing — in addition to the hesitancy some people have in visiting other people’s homes during this difficult time — the type of added extras Lafratta provides help both buyers and sellers in today’s property market.

Using a realtor can also help guide both buyers and sellers through what has become a much more complex process than buying and selling real estate used to be.

“A (sales) contract used to be a page or two. Now it is seven pages and there are five other documents to sign,” says Lafratta.

Given that the market is red hot right now, his services make a difference.

Since moving to Kamloops from the Lower Mainland in 2019 to become a realtor, Lafratta has been very successful in concentrating on the residential market, with the odd commercial property sale thrown in.

As a newcomer who did not know anyone in the city when he arrived, Lafratta used the simplest trick in the book when he was starting as a realtor in Kamloops: He walked neighbourhood streets and knocked on doors. He got to know the city and met people.

“In this business, it’s about marketing and that can be expensive,” he says. “Door-knocking doesn’t cost a thing and if you have the time, it’s worth it.”

His efforts paid off and he soon started to list properties. And he has not looked back.

He doesn’t have the time to door-knock as much anymore but recommends it as a way of starting in the business. Chris enjoys living and working in Kamloops, a community he feels offers its residents so much.

“It’s a good place to live, economically diversified and a town with a good transportation infrastructure and amenities,” says Lafratta.

An outdoor enthusiast himself, he likes to ski in the winter at nearby Sun Peaks and hikes and rides his mountain bike in the summer. He is also currently learning Punjabi.

“But, to be honest, I kinda work all the time,” he adds with a laugh.

With an outgoing personality, and not afraid to be told no, Lafratta brings a great level of life experience to the job, having lived and worked in other industries across the country.

Originally from Ontario, he has worked in a steel mill there, in the oil and gas sector in northern B.C. and as an electrician for 11 years in the Lower Mainland. Before moving to Kamloops, he lived in Surrey, where he became a realtor. Chris is very enthusiastic about Kamloops. He puts everything into helping others make a purchase or sell quickly in the city that he now calls home.
