Kami Carpets has you covered — in more ways than one

When it comes to flooring, Kami Carpets has you covered – in more ways than one.

The store, a well-known name in flooring for Kamloops and the surrounding area since 1987, not only offers a wide selection of flooring but carries a full array of window coverings including Hunter Douglas Blinds for both the residential and commercial consumer.

“If it goes on a floor, we can install it,” says Alan Watier owner and operator of the store along with his wife Christine.

Watier is a certified installer himself with over 30 years of experience in a variety of areas. A few of those are working as an installer for Kami Carpets for several years, on the board of directors for the British Columbia Floor Covering Association and as a manufacturer rep before purchasing the business from the original owner.

That personal, local touch, along with a vast array of experience among the store’s employees as well as its many sub contractors, is what makes all the difference.

Started in 1987 by two partners who at first installed everything they sold, Kami Carpets has grown over the years. From its humble beginnings, the business has expanded to be the premier flooring products store in the city. It carries an extensive selection of carpet, vinyl sheet goods, luxury vinyl plank, ceramic tile, hardwood, laminate, and area rugs. It even offers specialized niche products like a designer concrete micro topping as well as a wide selection of window coverings including custom draperies and Hunter Douglas Blinds.

“Here (at Kami Carpets) we’re very big on education – education for our staff, our installers and also for our customers,” says Watier.

With innovations in technology, consumer tastes in a constant evolution, the store and its staff stay on top of emerging trends to offer their customers the latest in styles and products with all the correct information.

“We work with the customer to ensure that (the product) is the right fit for their needs,” says Watier. “We want to place the products where they will excel.”

The store strives to do it right, providing quality products that last, at fair prices and they stand behind the products they sell.

“The customer comes in with a vision and it is up to us to help them realize that vision,” he said.

When it comes to the installation of the products, the store excels here as well. It has one of the most experienced team of installers in the city. Attention to detail, the fit and finish is what they pride themselves on. In addition to Watier, five of the store’s installers each have over 30 years of experience.

“They are either ticketed journeyman or Red Seal Certified,” says Watier. “We are pretty particular who we have working for us.”

That not only gives customers piece of mind that the job will be done right the first time, but also that they are in good hands.

“Everyone here is part of the family, staff and customers alike,” says Watier.

That is important in a time when, thanks in large part to the popularity of do-it-yourself home improvement programs on television and information available on the internet, the buying public is far more educated about what they want and how they want it done.

Still, it takes an expert to match the buying public with the right flooring and window covering products, and that is what the staff at Kami Carpets does. And its success shows — much of its business is from referrals or repeat customers, a testament to the trust the business has built with its clients over the years.

“We are all about quality — quality products, quality installation,” says Watier.

So whatever your flooring or window covering needs are, the folks at Kami Carpets can look after them, providing you with what you need, value for your money and piece of mind.
