Kelowna is undoubtedly a beautiful place to live. With our incredible climate, stunning scenery and world-class amenities, it’s easy to understand why so many people want to move here. After all, I did the same thing myself - my family and I made the move from Edmonton to Kelowna back in 2013.

For those who do decide to move to Kelowna, they’re often hit with cautionary tales before they leave. Stories of Kelowna having “no jobs.” As a business owner, I can tell you that this is not the case. In fact, I was recently driving down Highway 97 and I saw multiple “Help Wanted” signs in the space of a few blocks. This got me curious…

I did some digging and found out Kelowna has the best job growth rate in all of Canada (14 per cent), while our jobless rate is currently at around 5.4 per cent. Of course, these numbers fluctuate, but the point is, the Kelowna economy seems to be experiencing a boom right now.

That’s especially so when you consider the numbers we have seen in the real estate sector. Yes, we’ve moved from a seller’s market to a balanced market, but to my mind, even that is good news.

I believe there will always be jobs for dependable, hard-working people in Kelowna. The work that’s available may not be your dream job, but there’s opportunity here and there are plenty of local businesses looking to hire. Indeed, my Kelowna real estate brokerage, Walker Real Estate, would love to take on another agent or two. Just saying.

To my mind, a more significant challenge for newcomers than job availability is finding a place to rent (if buying isn’t an option), but that is not impossible. Difficult yes, impossible no.

Ultimately, if you’re considering a move to Kelowna, my advice is to go for it. If you’re determined and willing to work hard, you have a very good chance of making a success of it. I do speak from experience.
