OPINION
Of course it was Kevin Falcon.
Something about that weaselly face and arrogant demeanour... he has distrust as an aura.
With one last incompetent, stupid decision, he abandoned mid-spectrum small-c conservative voters like myself and kicked us out of the one comfortable place that didn’t have drunk, racist uncles at the table.
Say what you want about BC United, but at least that’s where the adults on the right played. They understood the rule of law, fought climate change, respected LGBT issues, stood behind the Public Health Officer in the pandemic, understood the justice system and refused to support the farcical freedom rally in Ottawa.
And they messed it all up.

Now they have to go suck up to the anti-humanity degenerates playing in the BC Conservative fantasyland.
This is a world where climate change has nothing to do with forest fires, where feelings and political policy trumps deadly communicable disease prevention and where grumpy old men decide what happens in schools instead of teachers.
Just look at their “ideas”, which is as close to policy as they’ve disclosed so far.
How about this one for irony:
"HOLD ACTIVISTS ACCOUNTABLE
Activists who impede the activity of resource development through illegal blockades, harassment and violence must be held legally, and financially responsible for their actions – as must the groups that support them."
This is the FREEEEEEDOM they are are fighting for, I guess.
How about this gem:
"APPOINT PRINCIPLED JUDGES
Appoint judges that put victims and their families first – not the sob stories of hardened criminals."
That’s my personal favourite because it shows they have no idea what they’re talking about. Judges follow laws as they are written, it has nothing to do with putting victims and families first. Good luck changing that.
You want to elect a government that has this as its policy backbone?
"OPPOSE VACCINE MANDATES AND PASSPORTS
While medically-approved inoculation should be encouraged, and vaccines offered to all British Columbians, individuals should not be mandated or coerced into receiving any medical treatment against their will."
Sure hope we don’t get any more deadly, novel viruses with these guys in charge.
The rest of their ‘platform’ is a bunch of unspecific calls to open more privatization of health care and education, throwing the mentally ill back into institutions and dogwhistles to “defend our history” and “oppose identity politics” that would make Maxime Bernier blush.
And that’s just what they say out loud. Listen to the candidates themselves.
Kristina Loewen isn’t doing any interviews with reporters, but voters are finding out who she is.
The party was happy to have quack Doctor Stephen Malthouse among its ranks, at least for a few hours. Kelowna’s Alexandra Wright got dumped after she appeared to endorse criminal investigations of Health Minister Adrian Dix and Public Health Officer Bonnie Henry.
There’s more, but you get the picture. Sure, you might say, they are at least getting rid of these candidates, right? But a party is never just those getting elected.
Former Peoples Party of Canada candidate Corally Delwo is the party’s regional director for the Central Interior and Columbia regions. You might remember some of the more memorable moments of her campaign against “insane, unconstitutional lockdown”, comparing antivaxxers to Jews in the Holocaust and promoted Ivermectin as a treatment for COVID.
Glenn Aalderink is vice-president of the Kamloops riding association. You might remember his freedom rallies in Kamloops or when he tried to start a private clinic of unvaccinated “nurzes” in the pandemic.
Again there’s more but you get the picture. All these folks found themselves a home with the BC Conservatives. I’d rather they just stayed there.
Also, their voters rejected BC United. How do they feel about having their party absolutely lousy with them now?
Anyway, thanks to Falcon, many of us who refuse to forget how these folks made a tough situation much more difficult, those of us who rely on science and common sense to solve real problems, have to make a choice to join them or not.
The so-called “free enterprise” party of the last 20 years abandoned all of their principles just because of their hatred of the NDP.
Instead, they may have forced me to vote NDP and I wonder how many others in the centre will join me.
