We can no longer deny the fact summer is more or less over.

There will still be the occasional hot day, maybe an epic water fight or final night camping under the stars, but it’s time to face the facts — unless you are a snowbird or have a southern vacation in your future, it’s time to welcome Fall.

Fall is a great time of year. In some ways the weather is more bearable than summer, but it’s not cold enough to completely turn you off from spending time outdoors.

The leaves begin to change colour, and the boots and long-sleeved shirts come out of the back of the closet.

Yes we lose the length of the day, and it becomes too cold for flip flops (OK, you can still rock them for a few more months), but you can’t beat the air in Fall.

In fact, there are at least seven things to look forward to in Fall:

1) Hot drinks: This is a no brainer for me, only because I like hot drinks in the summer, but as soon as the rest of you catch up, Fall gives you every excuse to try a hot cup of tea or cocoa.

2) Hot food: I know, seems obvious, but aside from burgers and fries, summertime can be lesson in minimization. It’s all about getting out and utilizing the time you have, so sometimes elaborate meals fall by the wayside. Why spend hours in a hot kitchen when you can opt for toast on the go. Fall helps us welcome back those homely meals of chilli, lasagna and soups of all kinds.

3) Sweaters: There is nothing like that feeling when you wake up in the morning, and you are cold and uncomfortable and you reach for your favourite hoodie or sweat shirt. It’s like an old friend meeting up for some hot food and a hot drink.

4) Halloween: Who doesn’t love a excuse to dress up and eat ridiculous amount of chocolate and candy? Usually when I ask someone what their favourite holiday is, it is a toss up between Christmas or Halloween.

5) Back to school shopping: Hear me out — back to school shopping doesn’t just apply to the ‘kids.’ And you might just find that new and improved sweater for Fall you’ve been searching for.

6) Baking: Summer gave you an excuse to turn off your oven, and Fall is giving you an excuse to get back in there and bake. You need a quick bite of something warm and tasty and the kids are looking for something to do besides homework or soccer, opt to bake some cookies.

7) Convenience: You know how a lot of businesses have summer hours and it is extremely frustrating because you are looking for something to do, but hey guess what, everything is closed? Well with Fall, and kids being back to school, there are more opportunities to try different kinds of classes or activities.

Am I sad to see summer go, of course. But as long as Fall is in my future, I think I’ll be just fine.
