An iconic bearded rocker surprised shoppers in Kamloops with a stop at a local music store.

Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top was a "real gentleman" when he visited Long and McQuade in Kamloops yesterday, April 25, to pick up a guitar pedal and take some photos with locals while in the store.

"It's a shock to your system when you meet someone that famous," local musician and guitar salesman Jon Treichel said.

Throughout his music career, Treichel has met his fair share of famous performers, but said it's still a treat to spend some time with rock icons like Gibbons.

Treichel said Gibbons dropped in unannounced, but a younger employee whispered to Treichel that the musician was in the store.

"He was wearing the same hat you would expect," Treichel said. "He literally looked like an album cover."

So once Gibbons made his purchase, Treichel said he welcomed the opportunity for employees and a young customer to take photos with him.

With a performance set for tonight as part of a tour across the country, Treichel was surprised to see a performer like Gibbons even had the time or energy to make it into a local store.

"When I'm on the road it's always a panic," he said. "I guess it's not the same if you're in ZZ Top."

ZZ Top is set to perform at the Sandman Centre tonight, April 26, at 7 p.m., with Cheap Trick to open the concert.

As of 1 p.m., Ticketmaster has tickets available still, starting around $97.
