Young man beaten and robbed of his shoes in Kamloops park

A group of masked assailants robbed a young man of his shoes at McArthur Island Park in Kamloops last night.

Kamloops RCMP say the victim, in his late teens, was walking across a soccer field where he was confronted by four people at around 9:20 p.m. yesterday, March 27.

Masked and armed with weapons, they beat him and stole his red and black shoes before running away toward Holt Street beach.

"According to the investigation so far, there may have been other people gathered in the park who may have witnessed the event," Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in a news release. "Those people are encouraged to please contact police as soon as possible."

The victim was later taken to hospital. Police didn't describe his injuries, but say they weren't life-threatening.

Police also didn't describe what kind of weapons the suspects were carrying.

Anyone with information related to this ongoing investigation is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2023-10303.
