KAMLOOPS - A young driver is in a lot of trouble after hitting a police car while drunk, police say.

Kamloops RCMP Staff Sgt. Edward Preto says shortly after 11 p.m. last night, Jan. 12, the marked police car was heading north on 5 Ave near St. Paul St. The 20-year-old Kamloops woman was driving a small car headed east in an alley and entered 5 Ave without stopping.

She hit the police car by the driver's door, pushing the police car off the road and onto the sidewalk. Luckily there were no injuries.

Preto says roads were icy, but the driver was also suspected of drinking alcohol and failed a breathalizer test. She now has a date for court.

"Damage to the police car is significant and it is no longer driveable," Preto says.
