You may already be too late to book campsites for the May long weekend

FILE PHOTO.

B.C. campers can book for their spots for the May long weekend starting at 7 a.m. tomorrow, but many may find few sites available.

B.C. Parks website opens Jan. 19, for campers to book for the Victoria Day holiday weekend, May 19 to May 22.

B.C. Parks allows campers to book sites up to four months in advance however, as the website allows for reservations to be for up to 14 nights (with exceptions) many popular Okanagan and Shuswap campsites are already booked up, presumably with campers planning on being at the site a few days beforehand.

iNFOnews.ca checked availability at Shuswap Lake Provincial Park, Fintry Provincial Park, and Ellison Provincial Park and found only a few sites still available.

This year, for the first time, B.C. Parks changed its reservation system and moved it to a four-month rolling booking window, instead of the previous two-month cut-off.

Booking for the Canada Day July long weekend will open on March 1 and bookings for the August long weekend April 5.

In 2022 B.C. Parks updated its reservation system following multiple complaints.

Last year B.C. Parks said it saw 317,000 reservations a 27 per cent increase since 2019.
