MERRITT - Calling all amateur singers — Rockin’ River Fest wants you to open for Sam Hunt in Merritt this summer.

Sam Hunt is one of roughly two dozen artists already confirmed for the country music festival in Merritt July 28 to 31 and the festival has teamed up with venues around the province in the hunt for an artist to open for him on Saturday, July 30.

Venues in Penticton, Salmon Arm, Kelowna and Kamloops are joining several others in the Lower Mainland and Prince George in the search for an opening act and will be hosting a total of 14 contests through June 15.

One club winner from each area will get to compete at the finals on Canada Day for the chance to open for Hunt.

Hunt has become well-known in the country music world for his songwriting abilities as well as his voice. Break Up in a Small Town, House Party, Raised On It and Make You Miss Me are among his recent titles. Merritt is one of only a few Canadian tour stops for Hunt this year, and the only one in B.C.

Other artists confirmed for the music festival include The Road Hammers, John Michael Montgomery, High Valley, Small Town Pistols and Dean Brody.
