Riversong Guitars is partnering with Thompson Nicola libraries to lend acoustic guitars to budding musicians.

Anyone with a library card can borrow one of two acoustic guitars for up to six weeks at a time, according to a Thompson Nicola Regional District news release.

“A few years ago when we first started talking about making guitars accessible through the (regional district), I felt a deep personal connection with the idea. Guitars have changed my life for the better, and I know many people who say that guitar has saved their lives,” Riversong Guitars CEO Mike Miltimore said in the release.

Riversong is offering two locally-designed models to lend, which include the Dreadnought and the Grand Auditorium.

Besides their size, the average player won't notice much of a difference between the two. According to the library website, the Dreadnought is slightly larger than the Grand Auditorium.

“A guitar is a voice, a companion and an outlet. On behalf of Riversong Guitars and Lee’s Music, I am very proud to be partnering with the (regional district) in such an amazing way," Miltimore said.

They are currently available for rent at library branches in Kamloops, Barriere and Logan Lake.

“This program aims to increase access in our communities for residents who want to play or learn to play guitar,” chief librarian Judy Moore said in the release. “The program is made possible thanks to the generous support of Mike Miltimore. Riversong Guitars is an award-winning and world famous local company, and the (library) is grateful for their support of lifelong learning across the Thompson-Nicola region.”

More information about the guitar lending program is available at the regional library website here.
