Okanagan treasure Shane Koyczan brings his spoken word poetry to the stage in Kelowna and Penticton next month.

The world-renowned slam poet and author will be live at the Mary Irwin Theatre Friday, Dec. 6, and the Frank Venables Theatre in Oliver Saturday, Dec. 7.

Koyczan hit the international scene at the 2010 Winter Olympics opening ceremony in Vancouver in 2010 with his poem We Are More. He worked with animators in 2013 to create a viral anti-bullying video To This Day which grabbed more than 25 million views.

“Through his powerful presence and adept use of language, Koyczan explores loneliness, loss, healing and the miracles that life gifts us,” theatre programming director Andrew Stauffer said in a media release.

“His work is humorous, tragic, sometimes serene, and always steeped in raw emotion. Although his poetry is born from his personal experience, Shane creates a poetic world anyone can enter and explore.

“He is truly an Okanagan treasure.”

Tickets for the Dec. 6 performance at the Mary Irwin Theatre in the Rotary Centre for the Arts in Kelowna are $42.00 including taxes and fees, and can be purchased here. Those under the have of 30 get 30% off the ticket price.

Koyczan’s tour also stops in Oliver at the Frank Venables Theatre on Dec. 7. Tickets, which are $35 or $20 for those 25 and younger, can be purchased here.
