Woman knocked off bicycle in Penticton hit and run

Penticton RCMP are looking for a semi-truck without a trailer following a hit and run with a cyclist on Aug. 16, 2020.

Penticton RCMP are investigating a hit and run after a cyclist was struck almost two weeks ago.

A woman cycling north on Fairview Road saw a semi-truck without a trailer attempting to turn left onto Fairview Road from Huth Avenue on Aug. 16 around 8 p.m. according to an RCMP media release.

She continued cycling but heard the semi-truck, now behind her, approaching.

The woman was then knocked off her bicycle by the truck. She fell to the sidewalk, suffering minor injuries.

RCMP say the woman observed the truck continue past, travelling east on Duncan Avenue.

The cyclist was able to walk to the nearby B.C. Ambulance station on Fairview Road where she was treated.

The woman was unable to get a plate number, but the truck was described as a semi-truck with no trailer attached, dark in colour, with heavy amounts of dirt on the rear.

"Investigators are hoping to speak with anyone who may have witnessed any part of this incident, and encourage them to contact the Penticton RCMP at 250-492-4300,” Penticton RCMP spokesperson James Grandy said in a news release issued today, Sept. 3.
